Patch standalone esxi host to 6.0
With every new vmware esxi build you need to update your servers. It is very easy with Update Manager, but how to do it when there is standalone version of ESXi or one managed by vCenter server? It can be patched very easy way via CLI and using SSH. Today we will try such process with upgrade ESXi 5.5 to ESXi 6.0 in my home lab. In the future posts I will tell you about my home lab, but now lets start to upgrade standalone esxi server which is managed by vCenter living on this server. We need ESXi Offline Bundle (VMware-ESXi-6.0.0-2494585-depot.zip file) for that.
ESXi 5.5 threw PSOD, Raid controller driver
I have received PSOD several times at diferent esxi hosts DL180 G6 (esxi 5.5 hp + applied all patches build: 1892794). There is a known issue with the hpsa driver that can cause PSODs, you should update to the latest scsi-hpsa 5.5.0.60 version.

Configure SSL on Jetty
Today we need to change ssl certificate on jetty. SSL Certificate issuer is Godaddy. Download certificate and unzip it. You have gd_ bundle and certificate for your server, also key file.
gd_bundle.crt
site-name.crt
site-name.key
We have a key and certificates in separate files and need to combine them into a PKCS12 format file to load into a new keystore.
Execute bash script by puppet
We need to execute bash script on several servers. To do it manually – bad idea. But we have puppet. Lets make it by puppet.
- Create bash script name.sh.
- Create new manifest and apply it to our servers:
Bootable USB stick on OS X
I need to install Ubuntu on Sony Vaio laptop. So I need to create bootable USB stick for that. My home OS is Mac OS X 10 and today we gonna make bootable USB stick on OS X.
Note: this procedure requires that you create an .img file from the .iso file you download. It will also change the filesystem that is on the USB stick to make it bootable, so backup all data before continuing.
Tip: Drag and drop a file from Finder to Terminal to ‘paste’ the full path without risking typing errors.
1. Download Ubuntu for Desktop.
2. Open the Terminal. [Read more…]
