Set coredump partition on esxi
After some manipulations described in this post you can receive this error
~ # esxcli system coredump partition list
no configured dump partition found; skipping
Just set coredump partition:
Can’t remove datastore on esxi host
If you plan to remove a datastore from a host, you need to remove the coredump files before removing the datastore.
VMware Tools for Nested ESXi
Wow. You can install VMware Tools for Nested ESXi now. The VIB package provides a VMware Tools service (vmtoolsd) for running inside a nested ESXi virtual machine. The following capabilities are exposed through VMware Tools:
- Provides guest OS information of the nested ESXi Hypervisor (eg. IP address, configured hostname, etc.).
- Allows the nested ESXi VM to be cleanly shut down or restarted when performing power operations with the vSphere Web/C# Client or vSphere APIs.
- Executes scripts that help automate ESXi guest OS operations when the guest’s power state changes.
- Supports the Guest Operations API (formally known as the VIX API).
How to check the last time your ESXi host booted
There are two ways of checking when your ESXi host was rebooted last time. If you are using vcenter, you can click on the root level vcenter server on the left hand side. click on the hosts tab on the right, and it will show uptime for all your hosts.
Patch standalone esxi host to 6.0
With every new vmware esxi build you need to update your servers. It is very easy with Update Manager, but how to do it when there is standalone version of ESXi or one managed by vCenter server? It can be patched very easy way via CLI and using SSH. Today we will try such process with upgrade ESXi 5.5 to ESXi 6.0 in my home lab. In the future posts I will tell you about my home lab, but now lets start to upgrade standalone esxi server which is managed by vCenter living on this server. We need ESXi Offline Bundle (VMware-ESXi-6.0.0-2494585-depot.zip file) for that.
ESXi 5.5 threw PSOD, Raid controller driver
I have received PSOD several times at diferent esxi hosts DL180 G6 (esxi 5.5 hp + applied all patches build: 1892794). There is a known issue with the hpsa driver that can cause PSODs, you should update to the latest scsi-hpsa 5.5.0.60 version.

VMware Certified Associate Exams at home
VMware launched a new certification family at VMworld 2013 in San Francisco.
The certification is called VMware Certified Associate (“VCA”) and consists of four tracks:
• VMware Certified Associate – Data Center Virtualization (VCA-DCV) free cource
• VMware Certified Associate – Cloud (VCA-Cloud) free cource
• VMware Certified Associate – Workforce Mobility (VCA-WM) free cource
• VMware Certified Associate – Network Virtualization (VCA-NV)
Contrary to other certifications (eg. VCP) it is not required to take an authorized VMware course before you can take the exam.
